Comments on his
work:
“If Schellemberg has
reached a position of popularity and prestige, it’s not just because he
integrates within a certain ‘area’ (instrumental, Pop, Candombe, Rock and
Jazz), but because he states, in that line, an increasingly clear
personality. Jorge has things to say and furthermore, he says them very
well. The first thing to draw attention is his voice: privileged, powerful,
clean, corpulent, reprocessing and updating the emission established years
back by Rada and Urbano (...) His stuff are songs competently arranged, the
solos scattered ventilating where necessary, a structure where the main
point is the composition (...) its sweetness, its tenderness, a music
without edges (...) A colour that smells of sea, sun, breeze and light.
I think that this explains the significant role that Jorge Schellemberg’s
music has taken in the montevidean musical scene, and these are the reasons
why I like his songs.” Guillherme De Alencar Pinto
“Bailando la Rambla (...) is doubly recommendable, in terms of its musical
interest, its amenity and good humor, as of undeniable technical virtues
that, luckily, are becoming frequent in national music.” Elbio Rodríguez
Barilari
“Schellemberg is at large: Al palo. This is how the best record that Jorge
Schellemberg has made in his career is called, the Cd , an amazing mosaic of
voices, textures and rithms. In the last decade Schellemberg has been
researching the Candombe in all its possible diversity. This exploration,
trough all the historical thickness that the black style carries, he has
carried out with extreme respect (...) In Al palo, Schellemberg plays
without bonds. He accomplishes an admirable synchretism of sound and
exhibits a conceptual assurance like never before. Without losing the
sensibility of artistic tutor that has distinguished him, he accomplishes a
modern work, with great commercial potential. (...) Brilliant record.
Schellemberg, who in Al palo took charge of the artistic production, the
musical direction, the arrangements and sings as soloist in four of the 10
themes, defines his work as “a record spiritually very high”. It’s a radical
change in Schellemberg. The recording, sometimes even with a feast climate,
is listened to with a smile that generates by request of the thankful soul.
“Many hopes are reborn with each song”, says one of the brand new
compositions. Listening to it, the wheel of life rotates fluently. In times
of cobbled paths, it’s a real blessing.” Alejandro Espina.
